Elena Ryazanoff Media Release
Media Release

Elena Ryazanoff was born into a family of artists and intellectuals in Moscow. Living in the area where museums and galleries were the norm and schooled In art from an early age. She holds a degree from the famous Sourikov Academy of Fine Arts in Moscow and is a constant and prolific exhibiting artist. In 1991 she come to Australia and eventually settled in Melbourne area close to Port Philip Bay.

Her works reflect on her depth of feelings for nature. For Elena, this is what life Is about. Her abstract paintings with the moon/sphere image and the traditional Iconic symbolism merge in a unity of sound and colour.

Elena says, “It is mystery of this experience that inspires her, the search for the spiritual essence of art."

She is deeply influenced by the masters of the Renaissance. This is evident in her figurative works with the sensitive and fluid use of line. All her paintings contain the classical compositional components and vividness of colour and glazing that evokes feelings from this era. Yet she brings to this, a distinctive contemporary style, layers of texture, figures that seem suspended weightlessly in space and a luminosity of colour that gives a sense of physical vibration.

Elena Says; “My paintings are mu life and I believe that every artist sees the world differently, that they do not record works like a camera, but as if they are looking trough their individual prism at the world - when I look trough mine, this is my vision.”

Standing in front of her paintings is an uplifting and meaningful experience; there is a sense of the melding of the physical and metaphysical worlds, a celebration of light and colour, a sense of history and true artistry and a feeling that comes from listening to inspiring music.

An exhibition of selected recent works by Elena Ryazanoff will be held at Steps Gallery, 62 Lygon Street, Carlton from 19 - 28 September 2005, Gallery hours 11am - 5.30pm. This is an exhibition not to be missed.
