McLaren Vale is one of renowned wine regions in Australia, famous for producing some of the best wines in the world. McLaren Vale has the Mediterranean climate of warm sunny days and cool sea breezes which contribute to the fresh, ripe, intense fruit flavours and distinct characteristics that the McLaren Vale wines are famous for. Grapes were first planted in the region in 1838 and some vines more than 100 years old are still producing. Some most legendary Australian wines, such as Penfolds Grange and Eileen Hardy Shiraz, are made from grapes grown in the Vale. Other major varieties in the region include Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay.
